Rolls-Royce Silver Spur Limousine by Jankel

Here is a good look into the Rolls-Royce Silver Spur Limousine by Jankel.

They were made from 1985 till 1988 mainly for the American market, and some also went to Brunei.

In total 63 were made, 4 in Right Hand Drive and 59 in Wrong Hand Drive.

It has a 42 inch stretch to the centre of the car. 

Rolls-Royce at Crewe tasked Jankel to make this version of the Rolls-Royce Silver Spur Limousine on their behalf.

When Crewe introduced the Silver Spur Touring Limousine that they made themselves, they ceased production of this Jankel version.

This brochure on ebay looks very interesting.

Yes, it's a rare Jankel brochure from the late 1990's featuring a photo of a Silver Seraph based 44" extention.

I did not know they made those!

Rolls-Royce Antibes with Monaco Conversion by Robert Jankel

The coachbuilder Robert Jankel certainly did some interesting things with Crewe cars in the 1980s and 1990s.

He even was the official coachbuilder of Rolls-Royce making the stretched Silver Spur model for the factoty.

But he also made some more interesting things such as Bentley Val d'Isere station wagon, the Bentley Azur 2 Door Spyder, the Bentley Blazer and even the Jankel Gold Label powered by Bentley.

He also offered an option called the Monaco Conversion.

The Monaco Conversion involved replacing the square fish tank head lamps of the Silver Spirit to more traditional round head lamps similar to the Silver Shadow.

From the brochure:

"Available on all Rolls-Royce, Bentley and RJD converstions.
The standard leadlight system is replaced each side with 7" round units fitted with quarts iodine bulbs.
The corner side, rear and indicator lights are deleted and the areas concerned made good to the origional bodywork.
Styled colour coded bumpers are fitted and inset into these are all indicator, side and tail light units."



All this for ₤9000.

What is hard to find is examples of cars that under went this conversion.

But Andy has!

Take a look at this.



I am pretty sure this car is a Rolls-Royce Antibes by Jankel, with a stretch is the C pillar and in front of the rear wheel arches.

Here is the design sketch, though from the photo angle, it does not seem quite stretched enough, but could be with out the everflex roof.

Quite a nice Bentley Val D'Isere by Jankel, spotted in London, Dec ’11.

Practical Yellow Bentleys

Let's just say that this is a quite unique collection of Bentley motor cars in yellow.

Let's take a first glance at this magnificant Bentley Continental. It is amazing.



It you want a more practical car than a Bentley Continental by Mulliner Park Ward, get a station wagon or estate made for you.

Or even a Bentley van. Go on.



Something more standard? Go a yellow Bentley Turbo R. This is a 1987 model, that was for sale a couple of years ago. I really like it.



If you really prefer open top motoring, in a Bentley Turbo R, you still can. The solution? Get one made for you. This one is by Salvatore Diomante.



And again, want something more practical in the Bentley Turbo R format? Go a station wagon for the Ikea runs. It does work well. This one is a Bentley Val d'Isere by Jankel.



Perfer a two door? How about a Bentley Continental R. This example is from the Personal Commission series. Looks rather nice doesn't it.



If you want the drop head coupe variety, go for the Bentley Azure. It's even got a for sale sticker on it for you.



Still not convinced that the Bentley Continental R or Azure is for you? Well then call up a coachbuilder and get something else made to how you see fit. Pinniafarina did this one for the Royal Family of Brunei. It is called the Bentley B3.



Live on a farm? Care for a Toorak tractor? Bentley along with the help of Land Rover made this Bentley Dominator also for the Royal Family of Brunei.



See, yellow is certainly a very good colour for a great range of practical Bentley cars.

Go on, get one made for yourself. Make it yellow.

Bentley Val D'Isere in Singapore

Hello, look what has been spotted in Singapore.

That's right a Bentley Val D'Isere by Robert Jankel.

Almost certainly from the Sultan of Brunei collection.



Another was spotted outside Harrods a while back.

Sent in more pictures if anyone has them!

This is not from Brunei, but from the numberplate it is a Johor car from Malaysia. Most likely the Sultan of Johor's car.

Bentley Azur 2 Door Spyder by Jankel

Every time I see photos of this model of car I smile.



Is it a matter of people being able to obtain simply what they want.



I want a convertible Bentley Turbo R please.



As Australians say, 'No worries, mate.'

Speak to Mr Robert Jankel and he will make you one. He calls it a Bentley Azur 2 Door Spyder.

And do you want one?

Yes? Well pop yourself on ebay Item number:280598821409 and pick one up from Kyoto, Japan.



Here it is.



It is a very rare sight, in quite a nice colour.



I do wonder what the Badge to the right says? Azur Spyder? Jankel? I'm not sure.

Now I can not say that this rear seat is quite standard on a Bentley!





Now to the Chassis number SCBZE02B3KCX26706.



So in fact it is not quite a 1980 Bentley as the ad states, but a 1989 Bentley.



And talking about models, it is actually not a Bentley Turbo R, but a Bentley Eight.



There is no Turbo, but it does have a 6.75 Litre V8, naturally aspirated with a catalytic converter.



It certainly one special car.

I would love to own it, but the steering wheel is on the wrong side.

Bentley Val D'Isere by Jankel

A significant contributor to Bentley Spotting Andy was doing a spot of shopping yesterday at Harrods, and take a look at what was parked out the front.

The perfect shopping car, a Bentley Val D'Isere by coachbuilder Jankel.



A beautifully proportioned station wagon or shooting brake with lots of interior space for purchases.

This design sketch shows the spot on proportions.

Brunei Royal Wedding Procession

Why does the Royal Family of Brunei have so many cars?

To do this of course, parade around their country to mark one very special day.

It was a big day for the Sultan, giving the hand of his Princess away.

Now lets do some serious Bentley and Rolls Royce spotting.

Get your goggles out.

My most enjoyable thing about a Royal Brunei weddings is you get to see the Royal Brunei Wedding Chariot.

Enters at time 2.26 on the video.



The Rolls Royce is a raised rear coach seat Landaulette version of a Rolls Royce President limousine by Robert Jankel based on the Silver Spur. It features a rear coach seat cloth canopy and extensive gold decorative trimmings, with a large gold state coat of arms to the front and sides, which when combined is as subtle as a nuclear bomb. Oh, with faux oak bumper bars for good measure as well.



Translating that spiel, the rear seat raised up out the Landaulette section of the six door Chariot, and that coach seat is covered by a canopy. Robert Jankel presumably made this.

I like that a servant stand on the back holding an umbrella.



Simply an extreme display of wealth and power.






Now the next Royal car in the procession at 3.15s is the Sultan of Brunei's Rolls Royce Phantom VI.

The car is presumed to be chassis PRH4770 which was originally owned Chairman Mao Tse-tung.



Now this vehicle at 3.59s I am going to crown the Royal Brunei Wedding Chariot Support Limousine with white roof.



It is, like the Wedding Chariot, a Rolls Royce President Limousine by Robert Jankel.



It features six doors and unusually has an alternative coach line sloping down the third door of the car.

After an initial eye blink it actually looks ok.



It also has one of those carriage S bend thingos on the C pillar that I do not know what they are called.






The next vehicle of interest is a Rolls Royce Silver Spur II limousine by Robert Jankel.



It has the standard 4 doors and extended wheel base to the centre.






Then a Bentley Arnage proceeds.



Make that a long wheel base Bentley Arnage.



At 5.11s a black Silver Spur drives past.



Then at 5.39s one of my favourate cars enters the frame. But unfortunately the front is missed so it is either a Bentley or a Rolls Royce Touring Limousine.



The Touring Limousine features a raised roof with a more centralised rear door and is of impeccable proportions.



The car at 5.50s is to be crowned the Royal Brunei Wedding Chariot Support Limousine with black roof.



It again has six doors.



And a sketch with perfect colouring in.






The final car of interest at 8.40s coming up the rear is a brown Rolls Royce Phantom VI.



Presumable chassis number PGH130 or PGH108.
