A VeRRy Secret Place

Somewhere in the U.S.A.
Taken today...

Not my shots.

A dying art

So here's the latest on the old girl's progress.
The air dam we all know about, but now we have dark red seat piping and re-Connolised leather, new rubber seals abound, the filter in the air intake under the windscreen, correct black painted detailing, hand painted coachlines and those wheel covers finally beauty ringed and coachlined - a big job there in itself. Record players still have their use in the age of MP3s and ipods....
Almost there.
Good job Rodd.

Good (G)RReef

"When word got around that West Palm Beach hairdresser Greg Hauptner was
planning to get rid of the Rolls-Royce he bought nine years ago, people
told him just what he could do with it. One housewife offered her Buick and
her body if he'd give the car to her. Someone else wanted him to sell his
wheels and donate the proceeds to starving children. And a prison inmate
wanted Hauptner to trade in the auto to pay his bail.

But Hauptner, 39, stuck to his original plan: Dressed in an Yves Saint
Laurent dinner jacket and sipping Spanish champagne to celebrate, he
watched as his 1967 Silver Shadow (worth $25,000-$30,000) rolled off a
barge and sank 80 feet to the bottom of the Atlantic. Why did he do it?
"The ashtrays were full," jokes Hauptner.

The real reason Hauptner deep-sixed his Shadow a mile off the Palm Beach
shoreline was to call attention to the need for new reefs where fish could
thrive off Florida's coast. (Natural erosion has worn down many of them.)
After the 496-ton freighter Mercedes Iran aground in the backyard of Palm
Beach socialite Mollie Wilmot last March, nearby Broward County bought the
vessel for $223,000 and sank it to form an artificial reef. "Palm Beach
lost a Mercedes," reasoned Hauptner, "but it will gain a Rolls-Royce."

Hauptner, who now drives a 1985 Chevy station wagon, won't suffer from the
publicity his decision has brought to his Great American Hair Experience,
where he says he has coiffed such luminaries as Farrah Fawcett and Loni
Anderson. But he won't get an insurance rebate. "We don't cover rust and
corrosion," kids his agent."

An article from People Magazine.
Thanks Rodd, for finding it.

PS

Good (G)RReef Part 2

The shocking part of this is that the car in question is a James Young 2 door Silver Shadow!
This guy was nuts.

Broken Dream

Currently on Ebay.
A broken Phantom.
To use the 'Flying Spares' term, maybe :
"Beyond Economical Repair..."

So sad.

The sort of car you fix up quickly and blow up in an action movie.

Chicago Tribune

Some nice old RR shots from the Chicago Tribune's archives.
Thanks to Rodd for finding them. I particularly like the 'Corniche Sports Car', but the Rolls-Royce corporate jet is cool too...

Holy FHC !

Here is a modified 1976 Rolls-Royce FHC (Fixed Head Coupe) Corniche that is currently for sale in Canada.

Rolls Royce Corniche FHC

It sports later model rear lamps next to the number plate on rear, and also Hooperish wire wheels.

Rolls Royce Corniche FHC

Also of note are these odd body side mouldings on the waistline and a front air dam.

Rolls Royce Corniche FHC

The car also has a third brake lamp on the bootlid, and if you look closely, the bumper fillers are chromed. They are normally aluminium so therefore must have been remanufactured, for them to be chromed.

Rolls Royce Corniche FHC

A good leather 'Connolising' would do wonders.

Rolls Royce Corniche FHC

This is an interesting example - I quite like it. I'm all for these subtle mods, but the waistline plastic moulding has to go...

For sale in Canada here priced at $69,500.

The Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended Wheelbase

Here is the launch video for the The Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended Wheelbase.

We all knew it was only a matter of time.

I first photoshopped an example in May 2009 here.

Deep down I wanted to see a name change like the Spirit/Spur. Oh well, I was not that happy with not having 'Silver' before this car's name anyway, with my prediction from Feb 2009 here and my rant here.

Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph Wagon

Here is a Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph wagon or estate. Common is not generally a word associated with a Silver Seraph estate.

It certainly looks like a VGD Genaddi Design version. Actually I do not know of any others!

The two tone colour scheme certainly suits.

Perviously only Bentley versions have been spotted.

This one in Italy here, featuring wood panels.

A more well known white one in America here.

Sure you have seen one before!

A Dozen Azures Please

The Bentley Azure is a great car designed by Pininfarina and built by Mulliner Park Ward.

Here are a dozen eggs for your viewing pleasure.

I do like a yellow Bentley.

The Mulliner wing vents look quite sporting.

Subtle number plate to watch the wheels presumably.

The total made were - 1098 Bentley Azure (1995 - 2002); 154 Bentley Azure Mulliner (1999 -2002); 4 Bentley Azure Le Mans (2001); 62 Bentley Azure Final Series Performance (2002-2003) and 3 Bentley Azure Final Series Luxury (2003) according to K.-J. Roßfeldt site here.

Bentley vs Plane

Watch the latest corporate video from Bentley Motors.

The 0:08-0:09 acting of Mr Bell reminds people to stick to their day job.

They needed a watch to compare the times of both machines obviously.

Bentley Arnage T Le Mans Mulliner

I do like it when people go all out and get what they want.

When you go to Bentley Mulliner you certainly can customise the details.

Without any respect for subtly.

Take a look at this Bentley Arnage T Le Mans Mulliner.

The photo quality is rubbish, but have you noticed the colour?

This is a two tone blue. Squint, that is a darker blue on the bumpers, grill surround and sides.

I quite like it. The Union Jack is on all Le Mans Arnages, as is the wing vent. Sure all Bentleys come with coloured brake callipers.

Now this is where Bentley Mulliner really comes into its own. At the owners request, the answer should be yes.

How good is this interior. It's just great.

I want this piece that colour and that piece this.

I want a machine turned alloy dashboard, but I want a wooden centre console.

I want the Bentley logo on the upper seat back. I want the Bentley logo on the head rest.

But that would mean that they are repeated? I don't care, that's what I want.

The colour combo is quite stunning.

Absolutely no consideration of resale value required in this Bentley Mulliner order!

I totally would have it!

For sale for £69,995 here.

Thanks Nigel for sending in the link.
