Most of us know that Rolls-Royce did once have a factory in the U.S.A.
For those who don't, here's a very brief account.
Sir Henry Royce decided that his cars for the American market should be built right there, so he and a number of engineers set up a factory in Springfield, Massachusetts - a town known for precision machine and automotive engineering. Also with close proximity to major cities New York and Boston.
1,703 Silver Ghosts and 1,241 Phantom chassis were built there with their bodies being fitted by American coach builders.
The depression finally sounded the end for the plant and it closed in 1931.
I had to see the place for myself.
Well, some of the original building is still there. It's now the Titeflex plant which makes specialized hoses for the space and aviation industry.
Rolls-Royce areo division is one of their clients....
The downtown Springfield museum is proud of what was once there with a special permanent exhibit with two locally built cars.
A 1928 Phantom
And a 1925 Silver Ghost.
Well worth a visit.

OveRRdose.....
Okay, I am quoting from the 'Highsnobiety' website.
This is the 'SPOFEC Overdose Wraith'.
Look at this thing.....
It's crazy.
Whatever happened to the old Rolls-Royce term of having 'adequate' horsepower?
This has 717HP. VERY adequate.
I quote:
"Tuner SPOFEC presents its latest version of the Rolls-Royce Wraith. The badass looking Wraith "Overdose" is certainly not for your regular Rolls-Royce customer, that we can tell you already. Wider than the regular Wraith on the back and featuring massive 22-inch wheels, it is especially the rear part of the coupe that makes for a strong statement, while the front features a mean look too. With the car's output set to 717 HP and 986 Nm, you can be sure that the performance matches the looks."
A massive wide body conversion gives this car what I always thought it needed. Custom bumpers, larger air intakes, side skirts, rear roof & boot spoilers....etc...
Oh, and those 22 inch wheels.....
I like the Wraith, but I LOVE this. - Except for the matte paint - I don't get that...
I'll take one in Regency bronze, please.
SPOFEC, "SPirit OF ECstasy".
How clever.

'Classics on the Square' 2016. The Only T in Town....
Mississauga, Ontario July 3rd 2016.
I took the 'new' Old Thing to the big show in Mississauga today.
Mostly American muscle cars and maybe a dozen European cars.
I was amused to see how the 'general public' seemed to draw a conclusion that Bentleys have velour interiors because they are cheaper than Rolls-Royces.....
I did set them straight.
Any a decent turnout. Mine was the only Crewe car there and a nice 1950's MG won the Best Import award.
A lot of fun and I met a lot of really nice people.
Some cars simply outrageous...
Looking forward to next year.
