[More] The Other Way...

A few years ago, David Irvine of Team Bentley Spotting posted about a Rolls-Royce Corniche Saloon converted to Bentley specification:

Further investigation on the excellent rrsilvershadow.com website identifies it as chassis #CRH21998, the factory development car for dashboard and air-conditioning updates introduced on the 1976 "Corniche 1A" and then fitted to the revised 1977 model year and later cars.

However, there is more...

A Brooks Monaco auction catalogue from 1997 describes #CRH21998 as ex-Monteverdi Car Collection - the museum of Peter Monteverdi, founder of Monteverdi Automobile and a Swiss Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Ferrari distributor.

Below is a scan from the catalogue where it's described as being painted grey with a beige leather interior:

It certainly looks very different now...

In The Bleak Mid-Summer

It was a cold and wet Sunday in London last week, but there were a few nice cars out and about in the rain.

Here are are a Phantom Drophead and Phantom Coupe, perhaps both used to sunnier climates:

More of The Who & The What

Back in August 2013, Team Bentley Spotting posted about several Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Shooting Brakes, including one formerly owned by John Entwhistle of The Who.

Another example, shown below, has recently been offered by Coys at their Blenheim Palace sale in the UK on July 15th.

It's based on a 1968 Silver Shadow, chassis #SRH4220, and it is believed to have been converted in the 1970s, although the coachbuilder is unknown.

Against what seemed to be an ambitious guide of GBP 48,000-60,000, #SRH4220 sold for GBP 62,280 inclusive of buyer's premium.

Even the best Silver Shadow saloons rarely sell for more than GBP 20,000 at auction in the UK, so someone must really need that extra luggage space...

Singapore Spots

Team Bentley Spotting has made a recent visit to Singapore, and while there we kept our eyes open and cameras ready to spot any "proper motor cars" on the roads.

And here are our photos!

Firstly, a Silver Cloud I or II parked alongside a Silver Wraith II...

At nighttime:

And daytime:

The Silver Wraith II is a comparatively rare example as is it fitted with a division.

Here are some more photos:

It has a second air-conditioning system for rear compartment occupants, necessitating an additional vent below the rear screen:

Next up we have a Phantom Drophead:

And a Continental GT:

A Flying Spur:

And a Ghost EWB:

A Continental Flying Spur:

And lastly a Ghost:

Some Hong Kong spots to follow soon...

Thirteen point six

Thirteen point six...

13.6

That's the average annual mileage completed by this 1999 Bentley Azure being offered by Silverstone Auctions at their "Silverstone Classic Sale 2015" later this month.

Why so little?

Well, it seems the car was a gift from a father to his daughter, but that she rarely drove it. So by 2009 it had covered just 215 miles...

That means it has been driven just 1 mile in the past 6 years....

It is described as being painted in sunrise orange with a cream leather interior and matching hood with just one owner fron new.

It is also detailed as having a "decent" history file - it seems unlikely there will be a thick folder of receipts given the negligible mileage.

It's such a shame the owner has not driven and enjoyed her gift....but it does mean that someone else has the opportunity to buy an "as new" car.

The guide price is GBP 120,000 - 140,000.

More Coffee Bean (update)

Team Bentley Spotting recently posted about a 1976 Rolls-Royce Corniche being offered for sale at Anglia Car Auctions in June: http://www.bentleyspotting.com/2015/06/more-coffee-bean.html?m=1

Here it is:

At the 13th June sale, it fetched GBP 29,400 inclusive of buyer's premium, GBP 2,520 higher than when auctioned 2 months earlier, but a relatively modest increase given the seller fees.

The post also highlighted a 1994 Bentley Brooklands, guided at GBP 4,500-5,000 but which sold for GBP 6,300 - a decent premium to estimate.

ACA's August sale includes a James Young Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow 2-door - 1 of just 35 examples.

It's spent the past the 23 years in Belgium and here is web-sourced photo of it:

It is listed as having 24,688 recorded miles.

Here are the catalogue photos:.

No guide price as yet.
