RRRoll Up the Rim and Win

Every Canadian out there will understand this one.

 

 

 

It is now Canada's famous Tim Hortons Coffee Shops' annual 'RRRoll Up the Rim' campaign.

 

 

 

Every time I go there and split my thumbnail to see if I won more than just a cup of coffee, I think of Crewe.

 

I think they should have used my old car in their advertisements.

 

 

RRR in the parking lot. The extra 'R' - as in 'red'.

 

 

Goodwood may have told them 'No', though.

RRSUV?

Oh my...

How can it be...?

 

 

 

 

New York Knicks' superstar Stephon Marbury drives a hybrid of a Cadillac Escalade with a Rolls Royce Phantom front end. It sports a stainless steel hood and side skirts, suicide rear doors, custom rear lights and a custom tailgate. Apparently using real Rolls-Royce parts.

Oh dear me..

 

Rolls-Royce would never make an S.U.V.

Or would they?

 

 

 

 

Britain's CAR magazine has shown a rendition of what the 'proper' Goodwood version may look like (emphasis on the word May...)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Motor Trend magazine says:

"If a Rolls-Royce off-roader were to be built, it would likely ride on the next-gen long-wheelbase BMW 7 Series' platform, codenamed G12, instead of the platform for the larger next-generation Phantom since the automaker wants every part of its flagship to be unique. A crossover on the G12 platform would allow Rolls-Royce to fit a V-12 under the hood and avoid hemoRRhaging money by developing a bespoke all-wheel-drive system.

The report suggests that the company is reportedly mulling over two different design directions for the more rugged Roller, dubbed 'Coach' and 'Pullman'. Coach is styled after a horseless carriage, with stately, square styling, and slab-sides. The windows would be small, and the car would have fat wraparound C-pillars, giving the interior a vault-like feel. Pullman, on the other hand, would feature a more contemporary design, inspired by famous steam engines like the Royal Scotsman. Lower and longer than Coach, Pullman would feature a panoramic roof, and a split rear tailgate that's designed to act as a bar while tailgating. Both Coach and Pullman designs would feature standard Rolls-Royce trademarks like a Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament, an ornate cathedral grille and rear suicide doors."

Goodwood, never mind the bandwagon, please stick to Rolls-Royce Motorcars not trucks. It's just the proper thing to do.

Grey Poupon #PardonMe

For those who has not seem them, there were a great series of ads in the 1980s for Grey Poupon Mustard in North America.

They generally always featured the picnic tables in a Rolls-Royce getting the full workout, with some sharp banter.

Very much a cucumber sandwich set take off. Here is my favourite.



There are plenty more as well - here is a playlist of 11 such ads.



Well now they are doing a remake!

And it features explosions, a car chase, Carl Orff music and even a gatling gun of Champagne corks where they "pop some bubbly".

Very Hollywood. Very cool. Check out the trailer for the upcoming ad.



I love it already. Who uses the word "egregiously" is an ad and gets away with it!

Interesting how now they have used Silver Shadows with “lets get around copyright design” modifications.

Not long to go now.

Who would have thought there were trailers for ads, and even a countdown. Oh modern marketing.

Bentley Continental R in Japanese

There is how they sold the Bentley Continental R in Japan.





Pretty much the exact way they sold them around the world.



I so don't know how they take these 'no roof' shots before photoshop.





Sorry I can't quite read these specs.



But it is such a good car.

This guys harps on a bit.

"It makes people happier with their day." I like that quote.



That's why I have yellow wheels on my Bentley. People don't know what to think.

Rolls-Royce Phantom DHC Bel Air by Mansory

If you decide to add a Mansory body kit to your Rolls-Royce Phantom DHC you have certainly balls.



Just look at it. It's fierce and rare and makes the car so much sportier.



Maybe too much. Elegance is certainly lost.



But the Rolls-Royce Phantom DHC Bel Air by Mansory is probably just right for a eastern block internet fraudster.

Or an arms dealer.

The New 2014 Bentley Flying Spur

The rear is certainly the most interesting design feature of the new Flying Spur.



The rear reminds me of a Turbo R and the high coachline rear quarter panel hump is certainly very Corniche like.

It is much more distinct than the old Flying Spur, which was a 4 door version of the GT.

The new Flying Spur is very much its own car. More like a smaller Mulsanne.



It seems they have dropped the moniker 'Continental' from the name which is a pity. It should be the Continental Flying Spur.

2014 Bentley Flying Spur

Well, it got leaked out hours before it should'a'...

 

 

I do like it.

 

 

It's built in Crewe and it's modern.

 

 

It keeps my pals at Crewe busy - and in a job.

 

 

 

The detail and craftsmanship are still there and it's well worthy of it's competition.

I look forward to seeing many on the roads.

 

 

 

Kinda ruined the official surprise, though.

The New Flying Spur

The new Bentley Flying Spur will be revealed on the 20 February.



But Bentley Motors is being cheeky, as they keep releasing teasers of the car.

It's actually quite a good marketing strategy.

First there was "The new Bentley Flying Spur is coming." on the 4 Feb.



Then there was "The Closer You Look..." on the 8 Feb.



And this is the latest "Quietly Powerful..." from the 15 Feb.



It looks like the body will be quite different to the old one. Much more like the Mulsanne.

We will see in a few days.
