Nice Day For a Picnic

Team Bentley Spotting has received some more Rolls-Royce & Bentley photos...

But we don't know anything about them!

Here's the first few which seem to date from around the mid-1980s:

We think we recognise the castle...

Do you?

Let us know if you were there!

(Posted by Andy)

UPDATE: John has delivered.

"Your most recent photos are of a South Eastern Section meeting at Dover castle around 1987/88.

I know the date as I did not get my Wraith 11 until 1986, and I can see it in the far distance in the last photo.

We went there most years (I was on the committee and arranged some events.)

The Queen Mother would attend a Sunday Service at the Castle (As warden of the Cinque Ports) and often stop to admire the cars.

Thanks John for the information, most appreciated.

The Definition of Honesty.

Well, the seller does imply that it's not quite right....

But he knows that he must state the truth when advertising on Ebay:

"I would like to start this listing by saying if you are looking for an original Rolls Royce...you are definitely at the wrong place.
  • This is a completely rebuilt Rolls Royce other than the Chassis (which has been stretched). Everything has been made to make this a limousine and not a collector's car.
  • There is no where on planet earth that you can find something like this. Because many either don't know how to. or simply don't have the guts to do what we have done with this limousine."

Engine:
Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 L 6 Cylinder

It's (well, WAS) a Bentley:

"Here is the info for the Chassis.
BENTLEY MOTORS 1931 LTD 16 CONDUIT ST. LONDON
CHASSIS # (B333E)
Both of the above are written inside where the engine is on the CHASSIS"

Brides who have no idea will just love it:
"Omigawd, a Roills-Royice...! Thet is sew cooell":

"Like totally original from the 1950s.."

Did they have drugs back then?

It's just all wrong.

Whoaahhh!
Did we just hit something....?

Ooops, the wedding's off....

May she sell well, but not to an RROC/BDC member.

POV car camera for Christmas?

So, who got a GoPro camera for Christmas?

Maybe this guy?

Or this one?

What about this one?

But these guys are having super fun with their GoPro and a Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit!

I love it.

Personally I have the Contour GPS camera which does GPS logging so I know where I've driven.

And it looks cooler on the car than the GoPro.

But the new GoPro range is attractive...

Merry Snowy Christmas!

We can find lots of appropriate pictures:

Martin Bourne (one of the members of the Silver Shadow design team) in snow with a Silver Shadow and a 'bottle of spring water'...?
Note the 'TU' registration.

A Silver Shadow in snowy conditions  (both of these from Malcolm Bobbitt's book):

A 'TU' plate again.

Or a sad 'photoshop' attempt of my 'out the windshield' view from a certain German car taken in Hull, Quebec, Canada yesterday...

Then some of Rodd's real shots:

And two of my own:

1981:

This one being my personal favourite from two years ago:

'Frightful...'

Now the very frightful one (Rodd's from two years ago) :

Have a very Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas and Seasons Greetings to all Bentley Spotting readers.

Don sent in the appropriately decorated car,

And even uploaded his video from the Rolls-Royce Owners' Club Florida Region Christmas Meet 1996. Quite cool to see period video. Go VHS!

And who can forget Kristofer from Sweden Christmas creation this year.

Have a lovely day.

The Rolls-Royce story in sand art

Why not some sand art of the Rolls-Royce story?

Quite an interesting advertisement.

Bentley T James Young 2 door

Check out this barn find Bentley full of moss.

Look closely at it.

Have you noticed it yet? Yeah, it's modern coachbuilding.

That's right, the car is a Bentley T 2 door saloon by James Young Ltd.

The long doors are a dead give away.

The name plate is in order. The story goes that Jack Barclay encouraged James Young to continue coach building even though the cars had become monocoque.

Those rear seats are certainly a rare spot to be in.

Number SY28. Nice.

From the front.

Now the back.

Have you been thinking, why on earth is there so much moss on the car?

Check it out.

Well durr, of course the previously owner used it in his flower display at the Hampton Court Flower show.

It was his first flower show showing, and he won best in show!

Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2007

Lets put the Bentley on a stick and have flowers grow out of it.

Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2007

Good idea mate. Yeah, do it to a super rare coachbuild car, it will not annoy anyone at all.

Bentley, One Careful Owner (with Mac)

It seems that these James Young 2 door cars have hard lives. 35 Rolls-Royce versions were built and 15 Bentley versions.

Another one was found in a barn after Hurricane Katrina here. A worse for ware one has been spotted in California here and one has even ended up in the bottom of the ocean as a dive feature here.

It is for sale on ebay here.

Bentley Turbo R 2 door by Hooper & Co.

Here is another example of a Bentley Turbo R 2 door by Hooper & Co from the archives.

I do like the Hooper sports steering wheel.

Here are just the photos.

Bentley Turbo R 2 door by Hooper & Co.

I do like the rear window.

Notice the wider centre console to house all that extra stereo equipment.

And of course the long door.

I am a fan of modern coachbuilding.

Bentley Essex gets stickered up

I think people could easily guess I'm a big fan of Bentley Racing, and was thrilled that Bentley is getting back into racing with the GT3.

Yes I fly the Team Bentley flag.

Here is the concept race car, parked next to the Le Mans winning Bentley.

Now let's take a look at the stock at Bentley Essex.

Noting that Bentley Continental GT Speed in the window?

Well just check it out! It has Bentley Continental GT3 livery!

They ordered the stickers and just put them on.

Thanks Bentley boys.

I really like it.

I really want a race spot on my Bentley Turbo R.

It would totally go with yellow wheels.

And of course, the best car spotter in the world has spotted the car on the streets of London.

Now, where do I order stickers from?
