Sufacon

A SUFACON has turned up for sale again.

It sounds like the name of an eighties alternative band, but no, it's a specially modified 1993 Continental R (SUper FAst CONtinental - how clever..) for none other than the Sultan of Brunei.



The extra louvres and the different front bumper do look good.

A previous Brunei Special SUFACON again from 1993 has turned up for sale before as well.

It is presumed that these two Bentley Specials were from a run of two Continental Rs made for the Sultan (or more specifically the Royal Family of Brunei) SCBZB04D7PCH00207 Bentley Continental R UK registration JB3, and SCBZH04D0PCH00208 Bentley Continental R UK registration 1H, from the Sultan of Brunei VIN number list. Presumed upgrades include Twin Intercoolers, Water Injection, Special Louvered Vents, 17" Bentley Alloy Wheels and Azure Seats.

The Continental R is one of those cars that just ages gracefully - a bit like Sophia Loren... Designers John Heffernan and Ken Greenley (of DB7 fame) did a great job and I'm sure they know it.



The car is currently for sale for £85,000 from P&A Wood.

Carlo Talamo Bentley

Bentley and Mulliner Park Ward referred to this car as Project 116.



It is a light weight racing version of the Bentley Continental R.



The car was commissioned by Carlo Talamo of Milan. He loved motorcycles and loved the challenges. When the Harley Davidson brand was failing in Italy he turned it into a commercial phenomenon, then devoted his attention to the Triumph brand.

But here it is next to a get fighter!



This car has turned aluminiun trim, quilted leather, a roll cage (!), new cams, a bigger turbo, gas flow heads and a ram air intake. The weight was reduced by some 200kg and it could reach 60mph in 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 160mph.

Stanley Harvey's, Belfast.

Time Warp.

Ok, so 1WZ (the Lord Mayor of Belfast's midnight blue Phantom) was serviced there some thirty odd years ago.

But let's go back in time to 1980 to see what other RRs & Bs were being sold or serviced in Stan's place.

These are shots I took when we paid for every shot (film and developing) - never mind how painless it is these days with a digital camera.

Rolls-Royce Camargue Beau Rivage by Hooper

Hooper & Co certainly did make very special cars and this is no exception.

It is a Rolls-Royce Camargue Beau Rivage by Hooper. That's right, a 'beautiful shore' version of a department of the Côte d'Azur.

An appropriate name for the most expensive car available at the time, then taken to a coachbuilder so that you can spend just that little bit extra money on a machine that takes you from A to B. Sure.

It is in the detail that makes Hooper cars special.

Colour coded wind screen wipers, pin stripes on the hub caps, front air dam, lower sills, colour coded front lamp surrounds, and just take a look at the two tone colour scheme.

Just superb!

How good it the roof colour line on the rear quarter panel. It is very sharp!



You just know that box on the rear parcel shelf is hiding something special. Probably a drinks fridge, more maybe a fax machine or a tape deck. Certainly something 1980's cool.

This car was actually on the Hooper & Co. stand at the Geneva motorshow in 1983, and sold within 2 hours of it been on display.

For those in Melbourne, currently on display at Ekberg & Lang's showroom is the 2 door Hooper Bentley Turbo R that was spotted that the RROC Federal rally last month with pictures and video of the car here.

Lord Mayor of Belfast's Phantom

The car below I saw often as a kid in the seventies has now popped up on the other side of the pond.

Here is a photo of the car I took as a teenager.

This Rolls-Royce Phantom VI is a little special, as it was the Lord Mayor of Belfast's Phantom.

Here it is today.



A slight colour change, but the Phantom comes with all the paper work and its has listed the old number plate showing 1WZ as it was in the 70s.

And another example of the paper work.

All the service bills are from Stanley Harvey's - the old Belfast RR dealer.

Here is a picture I took in the 70s of Stanley Harvey.

It has been restored, with a slight variation from its original in Midnight blue colour.





I'd have bought it if it wasn't redone in two tone...Too bad.

Rolls-Royce Camargue at Adlington Hall & The Hunting Lodge

Here is a period photo from the late 70`s or poss early 80`s of the Rolls-Royce Camargue.



It is parked out the from of Adlington Hall & The Hunting Lodge and check the number plate.

That's right it's 1800 TU. Which means it is the factory's car, so it's a PR/Press day.



I'm thinking, the PR pitch. Let's take the most expensive car in the world, and the most sporting Rolls-Royce, and let's go kill some things!

Bentley Mulsanne on the Street

Here are 15 photos of the new Bentley Mulsanne.



They were all spotted on the street.



It is an impressive machine.





Large.





And powerful.





It certainly has presence.



It even eats pavement.





I have to slip in this older Mulsanne. Check out the colours!

This is a photo from the street of New York city. Check the number plate. It is one of those GB plates that is mirror image, for when you flip the photo electronically.
