LWB/EWB

We all know about Goodwood's EWB cars (Extended Wheel Base).
But here are some shots of the the old Crewe LWB (A Silver Wraith II, in this case) and the new Phantom EWB  for a 'comparison':

Still the best place to be, no matter what the year.

Still the ultimate car...

Oh, and there is a Goodwood 'Division' version.

Just like the 'old' cars...

B Flat Major

On Ebay U.K.

Nasty.

"Bentley Arnage 4.4 V8 Right Hand Drive Automatic
is breaking for parts only"

Not much else you could do with it.

The tail lamps, wheels and the door handles seem okay...

Update: Carrosserie Manessius

A few weeks ago Team Bentley Spotting posted about a 1925 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Cabriolet by Manessius.

Here's a photo:

Chassis #59LC was offered at RM Auction's "Sporting Classics of Monaco" sale in May 2010 and the catalogue describes how, at an unknown date, it was modified with a fixed roof, then restored back to its original cabriolet design during restoration:

"The [early] history [of the car] is unknown, but later modifications included the fitting of a fixed roof. Completely restored between 1995 and 1998, 59LC was found to have the underpinnings of the originally-designated cabriolet body and was restored back to the original open design"

Well, Team Bentley Spotting now has a photo, dating from 1983, showing chassis #59LC on its arrival in Germany when it was still in its fixed roof form:

Its great to be able to compare both styles.

Many thanks (again) to Juergen for the latest photo.

'OI !'

I'd forgotten about this.
One of the registration number suffix's (suffi?) for Belfast, Northern Ireland are the letters 'OI'.

"Belfast DVA licensing office: (in original issuing sequence) OI XI AZ CZ EZ FZ GZ MZ OZ PZ TZ UZ WZ

AOI 1 to GOI 8300 (Apr 1969 – Dec 1973); authority transferred to Belfast LVLO/VRO from 1 January 1974.
GOI 8301 to YOI 99996 (Jan 1974 – Apr 1982)"

Here are some of my old shots of examples on Crewe products over thirty years ago:

UOI:

HOI:

GOI:

UOI again:

How about this one?
How cool...

ROI - the King of plates....

But ROI 15 was the ultimate plate.

The story I heard back in the late seventies was that ROI 15 was registered to a Ford Cortina and someone caught on to how it seems to read.

"ROLLS"

That Ford sold for a very silly high amount of money.
Back then you had to buy the car and the plate and do the transfer yourself.

ROI 15 seemed to fall into the wrong hands:

Strange the the gentleman's name was Mr. Bentley.
Petrol was expensive back then too, apparently.

Does anyone know where this plate is today?

Another almost appropriate Northern Irish plate for a Crewe car has turned up on Ebay U.K.

A Londonderry plate:

"TUI 900".

UI is the suffix for that county.

"Londonderry DVA licensing office: UI

UI 1 to UI 9999 (Jan 1904 – Aug 1963).
100 UI to 9999 UI (Aug 1963 – Apr 1973).
AUI 1 to AUI 1109 (Apr 1973 - Dec 1973); authority transferred to Londonderry LVLO/VRO from 1 January 1974;
AUI 1110 to YUI 999814 (1 Jan 1974 - current).
The current sequence AUI 1110 to YUI 9500 began on 1 January 1974. The current issue (as of October 2011) is TUI.
14 CUI ended at 7388 due to computerisation in October 1986, followed by DUI 101."
Trying to be 1900 TU ...?

Close?

Neuhh....

I think it's sold now anyway.

Happy 2013!

Well, it's actually still January the first were I am, so that now I am finally back home (with access to my computer) I just want to say Happy New Year to all our followers/contributors and all the best for 2013!
As you are all aware this is just a site in which we, 'Team Bentley Spotting' express our opinions and everyday observations (personal or internet finds) on both Bentley and Rolls-Royce cars. We have a good time doing this and it keeps us out of trouble.
May this continue in 2013.
This will be a good year.

We hope to see some interesting things evolve.

I'm off to the Detroit Auto Show in a couple of weeks an hope to post from there.

I hope that the Bentley boys and the Goodwood gang have something interesting up their sleeves...

And finally, may I get to drive my Old Thing even more than last year.

And I did drive a lot.

- I was passing him on the inside....

Is Black Is The New Yellow?

The owner of this 1988 Bentley Mulsanne S has fitted black painted alloys to their car:

Something Strange

I recently found a classified ad for a 1996 Bentley Brooklands, chassis #TCX57369. But something looked strange when I looked at the ad photos, something didn't seem quite right. But what?

Here's the the first photo...

Can you spot what didn't look right? It's not the chrome radiator.

Here's another photo...

How about now? Worked it out?

This next photo makes it quite obvious...

Yes, that's right...It's got the rectangular headlights as fitted to the Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit and Silver Spur and early Bentley Mulsanne, Turbo R & Eight cars.

Here's a brochure photo of a 1987 Mulsanne S so you can compare...

Here's a 1996 Bentley Brooklands with the more familiar twin round headlights...

I quite like it...
