FHC the FHC, here come the DHCs...

Spring is here and summer is coming.
We need to get the FHC out of the way:

and get out the DHC.

Spotted on my street today:

These cars impress everyone. They cannot go unnoticed.

Here's another from the Toronto RROC meet two years ago:

And for a moving picture, press play.

Then there's Rodd's shot in London in the winter:

It's finally that time of the year again.
Move aside please, the heavy metal is coming out...

"CLOWNIN" Bentley GT built for Cortland Finnegan

Not my cup of tea.

But I like it that people commission personalised work.

Un-wrap the wrap and put the normal wheels back on, and you have yourself a normal Bentley!

Here is a new photo of Old Mother Gun.

The 1927 Bentley 4 1/2 Litre "Old Mother Gun" Chassis #ST3001.

It is house in the famous WAKUI MUSEUM in Japan.

Young Man's Review of the Bentley Mulsanne

Check out this kid.

He actually does a pretty good review of the Bentley Mulsanne.

I don't know about you, but I found his accent cringeworthy!

London, SW7

SW7 is the postcode for South Kensington in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London.

It’s an affluent residential district and also popular with tourists visiting the Royal Albert Hall, the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum.

Here is is from above.

For car enthusiasts, the mews garages of SW7 have traditionally been known for their top-end vintage cars specialists.

And a few, such as Gregor Fisken and Peter Bradfield can still be found there.

But others, including Coys Ltd, have relocated to find bigger premises, while many others such as C.A.R. Howard, Dan Margulies and Porters In Kensington have disappeared into the mists of time.

What is great is that we have a stock list for Porters in Kensington of 11-14 Atherstone Mews, South Kensington, London SW7 5BX.

Here it is.

And what an impressive stock list! An Alfa-Romeo 6C 1750 Zagato, a Ferrari 400 Superamerica, Mercedes 300SL Gullwing and an Aston Martin DB4 Volante to name just a few…

Here is Atherstone Mews, South Kensington today. Porters in Kensington is long gone.

There’s an impressive selection of Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars in stock too….

We have the photos from the stock list!

There were some fantastic cars for sale in the SW7 mews garages back then…

Hooper Phone Home

I do find it slightly amusing that the concept of a car phone is so outdated.

They are now vintage items. Ironic hipster cool.

If you saw someone using a car phone today, you would laugh at them. Because it is so cool.

Let's check out some amazing car phone from the coachbuilder Hooper & Co.

I like this one. Arm rest cavity mounted. Colour coded to the interior leather. And I'm pretty sure it would have a cord.

Cool.

You want extra cool?

Try this red velour interior, with a home phone mounted inside a cabinet in the back of the seats.

How cool would it be if you saw someone using that! Whilst drinking a large Scotch. You could probably be sexist and get away with it.

Where is the phone in this one you may ask?

Take a look at the centre console. Yep, with a white number pad - you have a built in phone in the centre console!

We are talking hands free on the Camargue! Way cool.

Or this one.

I'll take the walnut veneer car phone please.

Hooper & Co were way ahead of their time.

Crewe of course.

One Rolls-Royce

Here is a new Rolls-Royce video that was released yesterday by Rolls-Royce.

Called One Rolls-Royce

The music certainly takes me back - it is by The Future Sound of London ans the track is called 'Papua New Guinea'

Yes I still have it on 12" record. Great tune.

ChapRRon

French Coachbuilders..

Henri Chapron - one of the best.

Henri Chapron was a prominent French automobile coachbuilder. His workshop, created in 1919, was located in the Paris suburb of Levallois-Perret.

Chapron began his career developing custom body designs for French luxury vehicles, like Talbot, Delahaye and Delage, in the 1920s.

As France ceased building vehicles of this type in the 1950s, Chapron switched his attention to the recently launched Citroën DS  with its revolutionary aerodynamic design and radical hydraulic suspension. At first Chapron purchased these vehicles and customised them as one-off conversions. Many of these became unique convertible variants of the DS known as the "Décapotable". All told, Chapron created 389 hand-built DS convertibles.

Here's one of those Citroens I spotted in Toronto:

Stunning...

But Chapron worked on Rolls-Royces too. There is a Phantom V available at the Imperial Palace Auto Collection in Las Vegas.

Very much 'James Young meets Freestone & Webb....'

Well, she's available, but not finished.

90% completed, eh?

Hmmmm? Now what colour could we choose.....?
