The Silver Ghosts are coming

The Silver Ghosts are coming.

That's right the Silver Ghost Association are on tour. In Australia. And they have been spotted.

Having started in Tasmania on the 18 February, they are making their way throughout south east Australia and finish in Sydney on the 22 March.

There will be up to 30 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts together at any one time. Certainly special.

A few days ago they were spotted in the small town Maldon Victoria.

Population 1600.

It certainly looks like a quaint Aussie town.

Here is the Google Street view of the town to take a tour yourselves if you want.

We are quite lucky that a Bentley Spotting reader lives in the town.

On seeing the cars on the main street - he went home straight away to grab his camera!

It certainly was worth the effort.

Thanks so much Tony, most appreciated.

I'm getting excited as on the weekend they are coming to Canberra.

Oh, and of course being in Australia you always come across larrikins.

Just look at what turned up in town on hearing that the Silver Ghosts were coming.

It's a car from the Feral Sports Car Club of Australia. It seems like a pretty funny car club, where their main sport is to 'drive on dirt roads to reach out of the way pubs'. Sounds like a noble pursuit.

The Silver Ghosts are due to arrive on Saturday in the Australian Capital.

There is the big Wheels car display on the Sunday, where all car clubs of the A.C.T. come together, with up to 400 cars present. It's the big one of the year.

I'll be taking pictures for sure of the Silver Ghosts.

Here is my video of entering last years Wheels Car display.

Send in your pictures if you spot the Silver Ghosts!

Plus Ca Change

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has recently posted photos of a bespoke Rolls-Royce Wraith for sale at Abu Dhabi Motors in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates :

It's finished in english white over ensign red with a hotspur red and seashell leather interior:

It certainly stands out!

But its nothing new...

Fifty years between them...

Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit Desk by Mansory

Here is something odd.

Yep, it's a Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit Desk by Mansory.

Not what you generally expect to see at the Geneva motor show.

British Bulldog and the Flying B

Derek Bennett the General Manager of Jack Barclay Ltd uploaded this pic to twitter last week.

It's pretty funny.

Indeed that's one use for a Flying B.

Bentley Arnage Unfall Crash - wird zerlegt - demontiert

This is an interesting, well produced video. Dismantling an Arnage.

Good recycling is in order.

Carat Duchatelet

Back in January, Team Bentley Spotting posted about a Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit II Limousine by Trasco International being offered for sale.

Here is the car:

The same vendor now also has a Carat Duchatelet Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit II Limousine on offer, and this one has armour protection:

The thick black band noticeable around the windows indicates bullet-proof glass.

Carat Duchatelet, like Trasco International, is best known for its Mercedes-Benz conversions, but was also known to create bespoke Rolls-Royce & Bentley cars.

More information about the Belgian coachbuilder can be found at 1000SEL: http://www.1000sel.com/index.php/carat-by-duchatelet.

In stretching this car, Carat Duchatelet extended the bodywork beyond the rear doors, an approach also adopted by Mulliner Park Ward for the factory Silver Spur II and Silver Spur III Touring Limousines.

Its a more elegant but also more expensive approach than the usual centre stretch:

Carat Duchatelet also modified the interior.

The front compartment looks as standard:

But the rear compartment with its division, centre console and all-round curtains is definitely bespoke:

LCX32936 was originally supplied in Belgium via Beherman Distribution in April 1990, and with only 2,726 kms recorded, is almost a new car:

But what if you actually want to have a new car?

Well Carat Duchatelet is still in business as part of Carat Security Group: http://www.caratsecurity.com/

And its still making bespoke Rolls-Royce and Bentley and Mercedes, many of which are sold to Chinese billionarires, and many of which still feature armour protection.

Here is a Bentley Mulsanne Limousine by Carat Duchatelet:

It's available as a standard wheelbase or with a stretch of 30-95cm.
The roof height can also be raised by 10cm and it can be specificed with B6 ballistic protection including 39mm bullet-proof glass.

This car features a 65cm stretch and bespoke rear compartment:

The tech may be more modern, but its easy to see many similarities with the earlier car - plutocrats still need to travel in style!
