Looking for 'Crewes'

This weekend was the third annual 'Hagersville Spring Fling Car Show'.

One Crewe car guaranteed.

'TB's Silver Wraith II

Usually I bring my friend's 'non Crewe product' shown here but this year my Old Thing was actually there.

So that makes two.

The Old Thing says goodbye to her other Wraith II stablemate near Toronto and heads off on her epic 250km drive.

Stopped by the Hagersville coffee drive 'thru' with all the massive pick up trucks and then headed to the field.

Joined by fellow RROC member 'DW' and his 1957 Silver Cloud.

And the odd other British car.

'TB' s Silver Wraith II shining as always.

Dave the 'Autoglym' rep did a number on her...

Had the old boys admiring the strange English car....

Dave the Autoglym man again.

I was a judge so my car was not entered.

A good day had by all.

We all got home in time and missed the rainstorms later in the day too.

One of Five

Only five Phantom V State Landaulettes were ever completed, perhaps unsurprising given that the list price of GBP 16,225 was significantly more than double the GBP 7,875 cost of a "standard" H J Mulliner Park Ward limousine.

All five examples were exported, and of these, the fourth car, ordered by the Romanian Government, was even more costly, reflecting a specification that included a refrigerated wine cooler.

We're not sure which of the five examples is shown in the below photo:

En français...

The coachbuilder, James Young Ltd of Bromley, Kent ceased operations in 1967, its final output being a run of Silver Shadow and T-series 2-door saloons.

Built between 1966 and 1967, only 50 cars left the factory, and of these, Bentleys accounted for just 15 examples.

Below are scans of a one sheet, 2-side brochure for the James Young 2-door saloon, with the frontside showing a photo of a Bentley variant, and the reverse detailing its specification.

But in French.

En français, s'il vous plaît...

A Matching Pair

James Edward Hanson, later to become Lord Hanson, was a famous British industrialist, who along with his business partner, Lord White, was feared for his reputation as a ruthless "corporate raider" and "asset stripper."

One of Hanson Group's most successful deals was the acquisition of the Imperial Tobacco group encompassing brands such Davidoff, West, Montecristo, Golden Virgina & Rizla. Less successful was an infamous attempt to buy the ICI Group, at that time the UK's 3rd largest business.

As a Captain of Industry, Lord Hanson chose to be chauffeured between meetings in Rolls-Royce & Bentleys, and two of his former cars are currently for sale.

Both are 1996 models, and the similarities between them suggest that either he wanted a matching pair of Rolls-Royce and Bentley, or he couldn't decide which marque to order. Given his reputation as a decisive businessman, the former explanation seems more likely...

First, a 1996 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur, described as being finished in Oporto with a black everflex roof, and with 32,000 miles from new:

And next, a matching 1996 Bentley Brooklands Lwb, also finished in special finish Oporto with a black everflex roof. Interestingly, it seems that Lord Hanson specified it with Rolls-Royce suspension fittings, and a column (rather than floor mounted) gear shift. It has completed 39,000 miles from new:

The Silver Spur is on offer at GBP 26,950, and the Brooklands Lwb is priced at GBP 21,995 – the choice is yours...

Bentleys and Rolls-Royces at Toronto Spring Classic Car Auction

Nice to see a handful of Crewe cars at this past weekend's Spring Classic in Toronto.

Ranging from 1959 to 2006.

This lovely 1959 Silver Cloud sold fairly well.

Off to a new owner now.

Some Silver Spurs mid 1980s to 1996.:

A mid seventies' Silver Shadow (not factory) stretch.....

In need of a bit of a tidying up, but decent.

Into the new Millennium with really nice 2000 Silver Seraph.

And a 2006 Arnage Mulliner.

Nice, but I'm not too keen on the chromed grille....

Then some modern Crewe cars. A GTC and a GT.

This was actually just in the parking lot....

And this!

Had you excited there. It's just a die cast model at one the vendor booths.

A good turnout of all sorts of other cars for every taste.

Didn't expect to see an AMC Pacer on Bentley Spotting, eh?
I might just nip out there again today to see the closing.
