Bentley Continental GT3 Concept Racecar

The Bentley boys are back to racing.

The GT3 car is based on the Bentley Continental GT Speed.

Massive front splitter, widebody kit, side exhaust pipes and an Everest of a rear wing. Can't ask for more from a racecar.

The paint job and graphics are there, with the Union Jack, the race spot, Bentley on the front window and rear wing, with sponsors Mobil 1 and Breitling.

However I would have preferred a Crewe Genuine Parts sticker.

If they had not put a race spot like a W.O. Bentley is would have been a complete fail. Just lacking a bit of British Racing Green, or is that on the roof stripe?

Here it is on the track.

And here it is on the motor show stand.

Now should I get a wing like that for my Turbo R?

"When it Does Not Exist, Design it!"

Sir Henry Royce's own words.

Or did Bernd Pischetsrieder say those same words after he paid $40 million Pounds for the name Rolls-Royce before 'The Big Split' ?
That's all he got. No factory, no workers, no Silver Ghost AX201 ("Oops!", he must've said there) and no 'TU' registration numbers.

Just a name.

Read the excellent book 'Kidnap of the Flying Lady' by Richard Feast for the whole story...

Anyway, I have somehow got my hands on an early Goodwood Phantom brochure.
It's a good one (big too), so I will share some of the images:

A great design by Marek Djordjevic and the gang.

What a job they did.
Who said "You can't make somethin' from nuthin'...?"

That's what I thought when I first laid eyes on a pre production prototype Phantom in Las Vegas.
Bernd agrees.

Quality is Timeless

A selection of RR shots from their 1990 publication 'Quality is Timeless'.

And a few of the of the engineers in emissions testing:

Cup holder development...?

Or a Kit Kat ad.

Go on 'ave a break...

The Substance of a Shadow

I've had this old 1976 (I think) brochure since the late seventies and have no idea where the outside cover is.

I'd forgotten just what a great brochure it is.

This shot makes me cringe....

You see. No glamour required...

For those of you shocked by such graphic pictures, here's a nice shot from Rodd:
