Rolls-Royce Phantom in Korea

When you don't understand the language, sometimes the mind just wonders.

This lovely Korean girl must be taller than average.

The car is 69 in (1,800 mm) in height. I did not think Keoran girls were that tall.

She certainly likes to open and close the doors.

The Honeymoon Express - Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud DHC by Freestone & Webb, 1957

This is an interesting drawing.

It is by the coach builder Freestone and Webb Ltd and is on the chassis of 1957 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud.

It is a 2 seater drop head coupe Body No. 1827, Design No. 3423C. With fins if you did not notice.

Here it is in real life, in 1957 I think.

The rear fins are not its only party piece. So is its electronically controlled roof. Quite futuristic.

This car was exhibited at Earls Court in 1957 by Freestone and Webb Ltd.

The car was named the Honeymoon express, due to only having 2 seats, and quite large boot space. Nice and appropriate.

Here is the brochure if you were looking to order one in 1957.

Three cars were made with this body design, two Rolls-Royces and a Bentley.

Here is the first, chassis number SGE270.

This was the one displayed at the motor show in 1957.

The second, chassis number SED179, from 1958 which is sometimes on display that the Petersen Museum in LA here.

I'm not quite sure which had the best honeymoon.

Now to the Bentley.

The chassis number is B377EK, and I do like the colour!

Here is another picture of the car presumably before a colour change.

The is Bentley is apparently also in the USA.

Thanks to Flickr users BentleyBoy, RR-B and rroyce0615 for tracking all of them down.

Phantom Pre-Production Prototype

Here is what is currently at the Imperial Palace Auto Collection, Las Vegas.

They have somehow got their hands on one of the pre-production prototype/test cars. A beautifully finished car.

A real piece of history - a Rolls-Royce from scratch.

Just as Sir Henry did over a hundred years ago...

Here is how it is displayed amungst the other Phantoms.

Simply the best motor car in the world

Subtle as always. From 1986.

1986 Rolls-Royce Corniche

They certainly have smiles on their faces.

Rolls-Royce Phantom adventure across South America

Check out this adventure!

Car Magazine took a Phantom across most of Argentina, over the Andes mountains, up through Chile and into the desert at the top.

Here is a quick video of the adventure.

You can read the blog here.

Click to enlarge this photo. Not the typical roads for the Phantom.

Certainly a very useful and practical car.

Silver Ghost visit to the USA

This is what as handed out at Los Angeles auto show 1990.

Rolls Royce - The Silver Ghost

Some more detailed information.

Rolls Royce - Facts 1907 - The Silver Ghost

Now for the action shot.

Rolls Royce - 1907 The Silver Ghost

Well done chaps.

The Hansom Cab

I read this Bentley ad from 1927.

The English language has certainly changed.

1927 Bentley 3-Litre Tourer

But Bentleys being fashionable has certainly not.

Let's go across Africa.

Sounds like a great adventure!

I love their dead pan humour. Just listen to when the water started coming over the bonnet!

Gin in the break fluid bottle. Love it.

Come on people, post your adventures as well!

Bentley. The Silent Sports Car.

From a half-page advertisement from The Illustrated London News of May 29, 1937 comes a 1937 Bentley 4-1/4 Litre Saloon.

The advertising department was onto a winner, and repeated a similar campaign in 1938 with this, 1938 Bentley 4-1/4 Litre Saloon.

Let's see how it looks today. Trees have grown, and the Silent Sports car has driven off.

Just finding the exact house in the town on Google earth from the picture is way harder than is seems. I could not find any Bentleys though.

Then again in 1939, with this advertisement of a 1939 Bentley 4-1/2 Litre Sports Tourer.

Better Days

There is a nice poster on the wall of Wayne Andre's "The Touring Shoppe" in Las Vegas.

It is of a Vickers Viscount and a Silver Cloud in the good old days when Vickers and Rolls-Royce were still friends.

Here is some footage of the Vickers Viscount part of the British European Airways fleet.

Immigration office is slightly different today.

For the plane spotters, here is a British European Airways Vickers Viscount displaying 806 G-AOYH.

Now the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud in a 1958 photo.

1958 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud Sedan

Oh how things changed.

Including that of the relationship between Vickers and Rolls-Royce. Read the excellent book 'Kidnap of the Flying Lady' by Richard Feast to see what happened.
