Le Mans is just so easy. Sure.

How here is a bit of hip hop culture. Not 'skip hop' this time, as that refers to Australian hip hop. Not Brit pop either. It is in reference to American Hip Hop culture.



Linguists would surely be interested in the development and use of the word "dub" in American society. Dub is indeed one versatile word.



Firstly is does not refer is Dublin airport in this context. Nor does it refer to one being dubbed a Knight. These references are for the other side of the pond.



To dub is to copy a music recording form one medium to another. In film making it is process of recording or replacing the voices of characters. A dub plate is an acetate disc used in the process of studio recording to an LP record. Dub also refers to a style of music which is a sub genre of reggae music.



All those definitions refer in some way to music, however in this current context it does not.

It refers to 20" alloy wheels, or rims. It is said the term was developed from slang, where a $20 bag of marijuana is some areas is called a dub, and therefore 20" alloy wheels were also referred to as dubs.



Interestingly enough 22" rims are referred to as twinkie-twinkies, and a particular type of car that has up to 30" rims is called a donk. Below is a donk made by Spade Kreations which has a Rolls Royce Phantom front end, and 30" wheels. It's not one for the Rolls Royce purist.



I think that is enough hip hop culture for today. You have been schooled. Any more and it gets too scary.

The red Bentley is a 1995 Brooklands, which is rollin' on dubs and is currently for sale on ebay, item number 280171977910.



Now the dubs up close. At least they have 'B' centre caps. I might stick to the proper Bentley term of light alloy wheels though.



Below is a video by the rapper Master P with his song "I need Dubs". The video features two Rolls Royce Phantoms flanking a Bentley Continental GT all sporting dubs.

Forbes magazine has ranked Master P in the top 10 of American entertainers, with an income well past $50 million, and estimated business dealings worth more than $500 million. Hence the jewels on his dubs.

Bentley Brooklands R Mulliner

The Bentley Brooklands R Mulliner was made from 1996 till 1998.



The car was a limited edition run, and 100 were made. The Mulliner wing vents are certainly sporting, as are the wing mirrors off the Azure Mulliner. The headlights have colour coded surrounds, and the colour coded bumper bars with under bumper mesh complete this late modern look.



This car is currently for sale in Autotrader, and is number 100 of 100. The 6.75 litre engine does have a light pressure turbocharger and produces 300 bhp.



It has travelled 45,000 miles and certainly looks in good shape.



The body shape of the car has been around since 1981, but the in interior of these late model cars look very today.



It is advertised by a private seller with an asking price of £29,900.



The dash does look like it came out of a current Bentley Continential Flying Spur.



These Bentley Brooklands R Mulliner cars are individually numbered with a badge on the centre console.

Mulliner Park Ward Limousines

In the 1980's and 1990's Rolls Royce and Bentley's in house coach builder Mulliner Park Ward initially made this short stretched Limousine.



Then Mulliner Park Ward made this fabulous limousine. It is simply one of my favourite cars on the road. The body is monstrous without looking stretched and tacky. It also has occasional seats, one very practical feature.

No high school prom here, this is a proper limousine based on a proper car.



The Sultan of Brunei has a Bentley version of this Mulliner Park Ward body style.



Your Royal Highness.



It has a coach built front end, that looks similar to a Bentley Continential R.

Now to the newer body shape. Mulliner Park Ward have made a short stretch of the Bentley Arnage.

The car is called the Bentley Arnage 728 Limousine, and is not a very well known model of the Arnage range.



It does look good, and is stretched by 728mm or 28.6 inches.



The occasional seats also double as foot rests. That is not how it works on train travel.



But what I am still waiting on is a proper limousine body for the Bentley Arnage.

The body shape is nearly a decade old now, and there are rumours of a new body in 2010, so there is limited time for production of this body on the Arnage.

This is a bit trashy, but I will proceed.

Italians do have an innate sense of cool.

Dolce and Gabbana tell us that Italians do it better, and when it comes to fashion and cool, well who does not own Italian clothes? It is a hard debate to disagree with.



How Madonna?

Now lets talk about the home of Prada. Milan. Milano. To keep on topic with Bentley Spotting more specifically, Bentley Milano.

Previously on bentleyspotting.com Bentley Milano was featured related with the Vivian Westwood exhibition in Milan, and a beautiful 1992 Bentley Continential.



It is certainly one cool marketing strategy for Bentley Milano to hook up with legendary British fashion design superstar Vivian Westwood when her exhibition toured Milan.



It is certainly a different idea, that totally hits the mark as a co-branding exercise. A little risky, out there, different, in your face, but so the image that Bentley conveys. Just cool, but with history and tradition.

Here is an image from the Bentley Milano opening party.



As standard with new Bentley dealerships that open, the big wigs attend, as do the Italians with cool ideas. It was only a couple of weeks ago.

Here they are Dr Franz-Josef Paefgen, Bentley's Chairman and Chief Executive, Uli Eichorn, Bentley's director of engineering and the source of cool Luca Marzio Garavaglia the Manager Bentley Milano. You can just tell who they are by looking at them.



This photograph does give us a great up close look at the quite rare chrome wheels on the Continential. Certainly not the standard for this car.

Bentley Milano also features lighting by the Italian Jacopo Foggini. If the lighting is anything like Jacopo Foggini previous work below, it certainly will be amazing.





It seems that after the party the camera phone came out. Luca Garavaglia looks cool.



Unfortunatelty the Bentley Continential does not seem to be for sale. It is probably Garavaglia's personal car to roll down to the Piazzetta Reale in. Nice.

Bentley Continential GT Speed

Next year will see not only the Bentley Brooklands, but also the Bentley Continential GT Speed.



Here is Dr. Uli Eichorn the chief engineer at Bentley Motors explaining some of the Continential GT Speed's features.

"This is the so called Speed model, to do just that. Give it a bit more speed."

Bentleys in Japan

For some reason, Japanese Bentleys are most of the time ever so slightly different.

Lets take a look at some Bentley Turbo R cars.

Chrome after market wheels, check.



Slightly lowered suspension, check.



Very dark tinted windows, check.



Check, check, check.



I am pretty sure it is to do with fashion.

Now take a look at this car. It is a highly unusual Bentley to Rolls Royce swap. Generally it is the other way around. The Bentley name badge can clearly be seen on the front quarter panel.

The person has changed the Bentley grill to a Rolls Royce grill, added Americana Rolls Royce headlights in subtle blue, fitted curtains and the pièce de résistance discrete alloy wheels.
