A lot of people say that European plates are too big and spoil the look of the car.
Take this nice Jaguar E-Type for example, with a stick-on plate:
OK, agreed, on some cars it does look wrong.
But a European number plate is the same width as a Rolls-Royce or Bentley grille.
Coincidence?

The small North American ones look so wrong.
Can you imagine a narrower grille for that plate?
It would look like a Riley Elf.

So they're wider because of Rolls-Royce and Bentley regulations. Perhaps..?
