The Fifities

Here's a page from the 16th October 1953 edition of Autocar, a UK car magazine:

It features a quarter page advertisement from Murkett Brothers Ltd, specialist retailers for Huntingdonshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and the "Soke of Peterborough".

I had to look up that last one: The Soke of Peterborough is an historic area of England that is traditionally associated with the City and Diocese of Peterborough, but considered part of Northamptonshire.

I never knew that.

And another quarter page advert from Edwards & Co, est. 1907, Officially Appointed Retailers of "The Best Car In The World" and "The Silent Sports Car".

But the main picture is Freestone & Webb's R-type saloon – I do like the elegant and sweeping lines.

This is #B121SP, one of 29 examples made to the design:

Very nice it is too.
