Sir Henry 'Tim' Birkin 1929-32 Bentley 4½-Litre Supercharged Single-Seater

At the Goodwood Festival of Speed in Chichester, Sussex on the 29 June 2012 I think the auction house Bonhams is going to have a field day.

Well it kind of is a field day.

I am sure most people have read that the George Daniels car collection in on the block, following his death in October last year.

From Bonhams -
The jewel in the crown of the George Daniels Collection is the ex-Sir Henry 'Tim' Birkin 1929-32 Bentley 4½-Litre Supercharged Single-Seater which set the Brooklands Outer Circuit Lap Record at more than 137mph in 1931. Daniels once wrote that, "For all its inconvenience it is a most exhilarating car to drive both on the road and track."

But what is quite nice is that we can hear from the man himself when he bought the car!

The link is here if the embed does not work.

I think Bonhams needs to be corrected. The record may not be 137mph.

We are talking about the best horologist in the world during his lifetime. Precision is everything.

I am going with Mr Daniels description of 139.65 miles per hour.

Here it is on the race track.

And the famous flying Bentley picture.

Bonhams expects that collection for fetch £8,000,000.

To make that money they are of course going on a marketing spree.

Feb 10 2012 a full page ad in the New York Times.

Last week the car was even sent to New York to be put on display.

Lucky for us, Bill went along to take a look.

Thanks Bill for sending in these pictures.

This is great! I love these details. You will not see these in the glamour catalogue, but it does show the history!

I am think the guy I give money to for Polo Shirts may have a good go at this one.
