Bentley Hooper 2 Door Turbo R Auctioned

Ian from Montague & Company that run http://www.bentleyparts.com/ sent in some photos of a very impressive Bentley Turbo R with 2 door coachwork by Hooper and Co. that was auctioned last week.

Montague & Company fixed and enhanced this rare car after it had been involved "in an accident and classed as a 'Category D' insurance loss, being damaged but repairable."

And the results are just amazing.

The car is a 1990 model Chassis no. SCBZRO4A5LCH33427, Engine no. 72743L410I and current Registration no. H441 XYT.

Ian did send in the photos and information before the auction Bonhams on 7 Dec 2009 in Olympia, London. Unfortunately I was away, and have only just got around to posting it.

Now take a look at what Montague & Company have done. Very nice updates!

They have added part number 'MC10021 Matrix Grill' that fits all Bentley cars from 1980 - 1995 and gives the car a very modern look. This grill is not simply a Bentley Eight wire mesh, it in indeed a specifically cut matrix in the style of the current Continental GT series. It does look good!

It is available for £675.00 and certainly will update the look of any Turbo R. I would make sure it has newer 17" alloy wheels though so it does not look out of place, just as Montague & Company has appropriately done.

The Hooper was also fitted with under bumper mesh from the Turbo RT.

Take a look at my photoshopping of under bumper mesh comparing THIS with THAT. You can certainly see the enhancements.

You can read a previous post about adding under bumper mesh and Mulliner side vents here.

This Hooper does come with the Hooper rear window and colour matched bumpers.

Much have been written about just how well Hooper balances their designs and here their coachbuilding converting the car into a 2 door sports salon is on full display.

And it does look so impressive.

I can probably just look at it for an unusually long time!

It even comes with the badge. Show it off!

The interior is quite impressive with the St James red piping.

From this photo you can really see the door extension by 8.5 inches.

The Hooper 2 Door does have interesting previous owners and "was delivered new to its first owners, Messrs Al Maktoum, the ruling dynasty of the United Arab Emirates and celebrated racehorse owning family. The car has had only one other recorded owner, Roy 'Pretty Boy' Shaw, who acquired it on 21st March 1998. Born in Stepney, East London in 1936, Royston Henry Shaw, commonly known as 'Pretty Boy', is a millionaire businessman, property developer and successful author who formerly was a notorious criminal. He was an associate of the Kray twins and a high profile and much respected figure in the criminal underworld, serving terms in many of Her Majesty's Prisons as a 'Category A' prisoner. From the late 1970s onwards, his career as one of this country's most successful unlicensed bare-knuckle boxers brought him equal fame. Since turning his back on his former careers, Roy Shaw has also found success as an author, penning a best-selling autobiography 'Pretty Boy'."

I wonder who bought it last week!
