Petersen 4.5 Litre Blower

Here is James May form Top Gear reviewing this Bentley 4.5 Litre Blower made in a shed.



It is in the shed of Bob Petersen.

SPECIFICATIONS:

CHASSIS: We build on a 1930's Bentley chassis totally stripped, strengthened and stiffened to be closer to the W.O. Bentley specifications. New crossmembers, suspension mounts, etc., are then fitted to accommodate the new engine and supercharger. 132" wheelbase. Original registration number and documents.
ENGINE:

4.5 litre Bentley 'R' - Type, 6 cylinder fully rebuilt and 'blue printed' modified to drive supercharger. Fitted with special camshafts, pistons, flywheel, crankshaft and Petersen heavy duty clutch.

THE 'BLOWER': Our superchargers are built specially for us and look very similar to the Amhurst Villiers unit used by the Birkin racing team.

POWER OUTPUT: In excess of 235 B.H.P.



GEARBOX: Modified Mk VI Bentley unit fitted with Laycock/Petersen 'P' - Type overdrive which gives a 26% increase on fourth gear.

AXLEs: Bentley or Rolls Royce

BRAKES: Updated power servo hydraulic with specially made 17" diameter racing drums with twin leading shoe system on the front axle or disc.

WHEELS: 700x19" or 700x21"

BODY: Vanden Plas Le Mans style. Ash frame, aluminium skin, fabric covered. Green Wilton carpet and Connolly leather upholstery. Black double duck hood and tonneau cover. Fitted toolbox.

DASHBOARD: Machine-turned aluminium fitted with large aircraft-type instruments made specially for us to the Birkin team car pattern. Period illumination.

RADIATOR 4.5 litre Blower type with heavy duty aluminium high flow core.
