[More] Symbol Magazine

Back in March 2012, Team Bentley Spotting member, David Irvine, posted some scans from Symbol magazine: http://www.bentleyspotting.com/2012/03/symbol-magazine.html

 

 

First published in December 1978, Symbol Magazine was "dedicated to the friends of Ferrari, Riva and Rolls Royce" and published semi-annually in winter and summer, with the last issue believed to date from Autumn 1994. It comprised mainly "life-style" features targeting the interests of the wealthy (and very wealthy) with a few car and boat related articles thrown in.

 

This advertisement for the Rolls-Royce Collection of pens and desk stationery is taken from an early '80s issue of the magazine:

 

 

Nice enough.

 

But what I like is the accompanying list of the Rolls-Royce Motors International distributors (i.e. excluding the UK agents) from where you could order the collection:

 

 

There are many names I recognize from when I used to spend many hours reading car magazines as a child:

l  Rolls-Royce of Beverly Hills

l  Park Ward Motors Inc of New York

l  British Motor Car Distributors of San Francisco

l  MD Motors Limited of Hong Kong

 

And others I even visited while on family holidays in Europe:

l  Franco Britannic Automobiles of Paris

l  British Motors SA of Monaco

l  Royal Motors Lehmann of Koln

 

All with the dream that I would one day own a Rolls-Royce or Bentley…

Yes, he bought a wallet 25 years ago after seeing the magazine advertisement.



And it's still in use everyday.
