Truck-loads of Rolls-Royce and Bentleys
Sometimes when you are driving down the road you see simply amazing things.
And if you are a Bentley spotter - I think this is quite shocking!
Simply truck loads of Rolls-Royce and Bentleys in convoy. That is a truck convoy of truck loads of Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars. That's right truck-loads of Rolls-Royce and Bentleys.
It happened around this time last year, to be precise on 2008/10/27 at 13.43 on the A35 near Strasbourg, France.
It is kind of too much to take in.
Total sensory overload. Look, this is truck # 2!
There are too many to look at. Oooh Camargue.
My eyes are hurting. Nice T and R type.
Oh there is another truck. Truck # 3. What's that?
Look what's up there! It one of the two Rolls Royce Silver Wing Landaulette cars by Hooper.
Wow, some S and some R.
Now from the other lane angle.
There are three trucks in a row...
Now back up to truck # 2.
Look at that paint work!
Now back to Truck # 1.
Woo red Corniche.
Woo two tone Corniche.
Now it gets even better!
Amazingly enough, another person going down the opposite side of the A35 highway got to see this truck convoy and started snapping pictures!
Here is Truck # 2.
Woow - the rear of Truck # 3.
Geepers! It is a fourth truck load! Truck # 4. This time with a stretched Silver Shadow!
Oh my gosh - there is a fifth truck! Truck # 5. Just too much to look at!
After taking a deep breath, the summary is as follows:
Truck # 1
The front section has a two tone Red/Black Corniche with white roof, and a R-Type or possible Mark VI in black on top with a red Corniche under them. The rear part of the truck has a white Corniche with black roof on top with a white 2 door coachbuilt S type at the rear, and under them is a black Silver Wraith.
Truck # 2
The front section has a uniquely painted gold and black R type and a red Camargue that looks like a limited edition on top, with a silver Silver Shadow under them with UK rego XXR7. The rear of the truck has a white Silver Shadow with non original hubcaps and an unrestored silver R Type 2 door rego MLW578. Under them is a rusty white Bentley T with a black roof that has a missing the front bumper bar.
Truck # 3
This truck has the blue Rolls-Royce Silver Wing Landaulette by Hooper with unique spats, and a white/pale blue coachbuilt, I think James Young S series UK rego VUD877 with nothing under it, and at the rear there is a 1935 Bentley 4 Litre Sports Saloon UK rego HVX400 that was at auction a couple of years ago here, and under that is a black Silver Cloud.
Truck # 4
This has the white stretched limo Silver Shadow, and under that is a two tone Silver Shadow II, and at the rear I think that is the end of a black Silver Cloud, and the other cars are cut off.
Truck # 5
The front has a black Silver Shadow II, with a silver Silver Shadow behind, and under is a Silver Spirit or Turbo R. The rear of the truck has a possible silver fixed head Corniche, and a white Corniche on top, and under there is what seems to be a black Silver Shadow and another red car, presumably a Shadow as well.
Spotting them all was actually harder than it looks. Send in your emails and comments if I have got any wrong!
Someone should know which company or person would transport 5 truck loads of Rolls-Royce and Bentleys on the same day. I have not worked it out yet, but someone knows. Please do tell!
A big thank you to www.kldconcept.com and S(c) for taking these amazing pictures.
British Car Day in Oakville, Ontario, Canada
It is always interesting to get to have a look at some other car events from around the world.
This times it is the British Car Day in Oakville, Ontario, Canada on the 20 September 2009.
They do look quite nice!
Constructing the Touring Limousine
The Mulliner Park Ward Silver Spur Touring Limousine is my favourite limousine.
If you are going to create more more interior room in a car, this is the way to do it.
Raise the roof, enlarge the D pillar, made the door swing from the B pillar and fill in the gap from the end of the door to the D pillar. Simple. Don't just stretch the middle. It will never be a balanced design.
Here are a couple of amazing photographs taken at Mulliner Park Ward during the construction of a Silver Spur Touring Limousine.
An extra 610mm is added to rear compartment and the roof is raised by 55mm.
You can really see the distinction between the new unpainted added metal and the original black standard car body.
This photo clearly shows the new body section that is added to the car. Not a photo you see everyday on the internet.
So do you want one? I do.
Can someone please buy me this one that is currently for sale in Japan?
It's for sale at Yahoo Auction Japan here.
An English translation is available here.
It is currently going for 5,000,000 円 or about $55,000USD.
I wonder what the rear badge says?
Arr, a Mulliner Park Ward Silver Spur II Limousine.
Just what the doctor ordered.
Lots of room to do things in the back seat.
Then have a drink after.
Oh, and it's a right hand drive if you were interested.
Bentley Mulsanne Launch Video
Now and Then
Now lets do a bit of integration of old and new technology.
In the 1970's and 1980's David was a avid Bentley spotter, and went around with his film camera taking pictures of Rolls Royce and Bentley cars.
Now with the ease of the internet, and companies like Google, we can just go looking around the world spotting cars from our computers. I first wrote about Virtual Bentley Spotting two years ago. Read about it here.
Now let's check out a photo the David took 33 years ago at 60 Beechill Park West, Belfast, Northern Ireland.
And now lets have a look at what Google Street View gives up today.
The house in the background is pretty much the same. The window colour has changed from blue to white, and the next doors front fence is no longer, but the fence pillars are the same. Pity no beautiful car is there.
Now for another. How about 212 Saintfield Road, Castlereagh, Northern Ireland.
This photo was taken in 1980.
Oh damn - the Bentley S3 is no longer there.
And the final look. This time at 30 Beechill Park East, Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Hopefully you have been clicking and moving the interactive map around above.
This is what was there 29 years ago.
Thanks David for the photos and their locations.
Bentley Turbo R Hooper Spotted
This Bentley Turbo R Hooper is still on sale in Germany.
I am a fan of its centre console. The wood work is impressive!
Read more about the car is a previous posts here.
So what is new?
The car has been spotted on the street!
I do like a Hooper rear window.
It could be yours from MK Automobile & Boote for 17.990 EUR
Wheel and Tyre Experiments?
After reading about AX201 the Silver Ghost being used as a wedding car a new Bentley Spotting reader and RREC member Gabriël sent in his car that was used for his wedding.
It is AX201, but this time on a 1977 Silver Shadow II (RHD) bought 10 years ago from Tony James, President of the RREC.
And take a look at this picture! Next to the slightly more famous AX201 at the RREC annual rally in 2008.
The Shadow does have the usual options, but the dashboard has an additional feature. Ordered from the Rolls Royce factory, there is a Queen Elizabeth II silver jubilee (1977) coin fitted in the dashboard.
Gabriël, I think people would want to have a look at the coin in the dashboard! Thank you for sending in the picture, and hopefully some more will follow!
